Please note that I always recommend to invest on a long term basis and hold a basket of cryptos to hold for a year or two. The below advice is for only those investors who feel very strongly that the crypto market is going to go down in the short term.
For those investors who believe that bitcoin is likely to continue going down, shorting the cryptos might be a good option. Here are some ways that you can go about doing that:
Margin Trading
One of the easiest ways to short bitcoin is through a cryptocurrency margin trading platform. Many exchanges allow this type of trading, with margin trades allowing for investors to "borrow" money from a broker in order to make a trade. It's important to remember that there may be a leverage factor, which could either increase your profits or your losses. Many Bitcoin exchanges allow margin trading at this stage, with BitMex, AVAtrade, and Plus500 as some popular options.
Borrow to Short Crypto
Most of the brokerages that allow margin trading will also let clients borrow bitcoin to short with no leverage. This will be a less risky way to bet bitcoin prices will fall.
Step 1: Borrow BitCoin/ Altcoin
Step 2: Sell at current market price
Step 3: Wait for price to go down
Step 4: Buy Back at lower price
Step 5: Automatically returns borrows
Futures Contracts and Options
The crypto futures market isn't as widely developed as margin trading, but it's still possible to make bearish bets on bitcoin with options. For now, LedgerX and Deribit are good options.
In addition, two futures exchanges, the Chicago Board of Options and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, has launched Bitcoin futures recently. But note that they ask for an initial margin of 47% of the futures' value.

1. Dont Short for a long time, only for a small duration.
